Keynote: The World Becomes What You Teach

Duration: 45 minutes

One of the most important, yet most neglected ways in which we can create a humane world is through education. Education is prevention. While activism to stop atrocities is critical, without educating a generation with the knowledge, tools, and motivation to be conscientious choicemakers and engaged changemakers we may perpetually be putting out the fires of cruelty and destruction.

Imagine, instead, that we raise a generation with reverence, respect, and a sense of responsibility, with the critical and creative thinking skills to make a difference. This is the goal of humane education, and when activists turn their attention to teaching others, they often find that their work has never been so positive and effective. During this keynote address, Zoe Weil, president of the Institute for Humane Education will share ideas, tools, and stories about the ways in which we can create a humane world through education.
